The Sunflower Chapter of Back Country Horsemen of Kansas was formed on February 18, 2018 as the first regional chapter in Kansas. Our purpose is to consolidate efforts at four centrally located lakes in Northeast Kansas that have equestrian trails and to share resources to ensure the continued upkeep of these trails. These lakes are Clinton, Melvern, Perry and Pomona. We also have committed our fundraising efforts to campground improvements. The funds for the horse pens at the equestrian campgrounds at Rockhaven Park-Clinton Lake, West Point Equestrian Camp and Cowboy Camp at Eisenhower State Park, Melvern Lake and Wild Horse Campground at Perry Lake were raised by benefit trail rides at each lake and were constructed by Sunflower volunteers. Blackhawk Horse Camp at Pomona Lake is a privately owned equestrian campground that was opened because Pomona did not have an equestrian campground.
